A beer distribution subsidiary of Illinois-based Reyes Holdings LLC is buying the distribution rights for some beverage brands from Sacramento's Markstein Beverage Co. Reyes is the largest beer distributor in the country and among the largest privately owned companies, and it already owns local beverage distribution facilities. Representatives of Markstein, which distributes multiple brands of beer and other beverages to much of Northern California, declined to comment, but the company has sent notice to the state's Employment Development Department that it plans a permanent layoff of 439 people, effective April 22.
